Faces in the BLUE
Dr Ori Michaeli
Welcome to ‘Faces In The Blue’
Hello, I’m Dr Ori Michaeli, an Oral surgeon and marine wildlife photographer from the UK.
Born by the sea and captivated by the mysteries of the underwater world from an early age, I have spent more than three decades exploring the oceans of our planet. Since beginning my diving journey in 1994, I have been privileged to dive in over 80 countries, experiencing some of the world’s most extraordinary underwater environments.
Faces in the Blue is a collection of these experiences—a visual journey through forgotten shipwrecks, submerged aircrafts, hidden caves, crystal-clear cenotes, icy polar waters, vibrant coral reefs, and unforgettable encounters with marine life. Along the way, I have documented more than 500 wrecks, each with its own history, beauty, and story waiting to be told.
My photography is more than a record of places I have visited; it is a celebration of the silent world beneath the surface. Through my lens, I seek to reveal the character, emotion, and hidden beauty of the ocean—its countless “faces.” From intimate portraits of marine creatures to imaginative underwater scenes created in collaboration with talented models, every image reflects my passion for exploration, adventure, and artistic storytelling.
I invite you to dive beneath the surface, discover the remarkable diversity of our blue planet, and experience the beauty, history, and wonder that continue to inspire me every time I descend into the deep.
Beyond the Lens
Over the years, my work has been recognised through five international underwater photography exhibitions and the publication of two photography books, allowing me to share my passion and experiences with audiences around the world. While these achievements have been deeply rewarding, they are not what I treasure most.
My greatest pride is introducing my children to the underwater world that has shaped so much of my life. In recent years, they have become my dive buddies, and together we have travelled the globe as a family, exploring extraordinary marine landscapes, historic wrecks, hidden caves, and vibrant coral reefs.
There is no greater joy than watching the excitement in their eyes as they encounter a sea turtle for the first time, swim alongside dolphins, or discover the colours and diversity of a healthy reef. Sharing these moments reminds me why I fell in love with the ocean over thirty years ago.
The ocean has given me a lifetime of adventure, inspiration, and unforgettable memories. Today, the greatest gift it offers is the opportunity to pass that passion on to the next generation. Every family dive is another chapter in our shared journey—a journey of discovery, respect for the marine environment, and a lifelong love for the blue world beneath the surface.
