Rally Plane, Nice, France

(Villefranche-sur-Mer)

Hidden beneath the crystal-clear waters of Villefranche-sur-Mer, just east of Nice, lies one of the French Riviera’s most unusual underwater attractions—the Rally aircraft wreck. Resting peacefully on the seabed, this light aircraft has become an artificial reef, blending aviation history with the rich marine life of the Mediterranean.

Its remarkably intact fuselage and wings make it an excellent subject for underwater photography and exploration. Whether you’re a diver or operating an underwater drone, the wreck offers a fascinating perspective, where sunlight filtering through the clear blue water highlights every detail of the aircraft.

For the Wet Wings project, the Rally wreck represents the beauty of smaller aircraft preserved beneath the sea. It is a reminder that not every underwater story is born from war—some become part of the underwater world through entirely different journeys, creating unique sites where history, technology, and nature meet.
